Infertility has become a common word to the people in the current society. The number of infertile couples is increasing day by day. The term ‘infertility’ refers to a disease of the reproductive system, which hinders the couple from having a baby. There are many misconceptions prevailing in the society regarding infertility. It is believed that, infertility only affects the women. But, it has been found that both men and women can be a victim of infertility. Active and successful treatments are available to help such couple and infertility has become very uncommon in the society.

–What, How, Why?

Infertility can be defined as the state of being unable to produce offspring even after one year of unprotected sexual intercourse, when the age of the woman is under 35. It is a fact that, women usually lose the natural fertility after 35. If the female partner is above 35, the couple should seek medical help after 6 months of trying. Most people still consider infertility as a crisis. Such thoughts will cause mental stress and other social issues. It is important to be aware that infertility is not a crisis or a curse. It can be tackled simply through medication and care.

There can be many reasons why people are being sterile. In the case of men, the following reasons are generally suggested:

  • Blocked sperm ducts
  • Low sperm count
  • Low sperm motility
  • Abnormally formed sperm

A temporary drop in sperm production is also one of the common problems found among men.

Fertility problems among women can be mainly caused by ovarian problems. Other main causes are:

  • Problems with the Fallopian tubes
  • Problems with the Uterus
  • Being overweight or underweight etc.
  • Age
