Intra Uterine Insemination IUI Treatment

Intra Uterine Insemination is a procedure done by doctor to help start a Pregnancy. In this procedure, the sperm is placed into the uterus or into the cervix, using a fine tube. There are two different Intra Uterine Insemination or iui treatment methods adopted at our clinic in bangalore, india. They are- AIH and AID. The main difference between these two ways is- in AIH, sperm is taken from the husband itself; whereas in AID, the sperm is collected from a donor.

IUI (AIH) has been used for many years for treating Infertility. It is suggested for couple who face problems in getting the space inserted into the correct spot. IUI AIH is best only for those, in whom the male partner has a normal sperm count and function. If the male partner has a low sperm count and function, the treatment cannot be fruitful. IUI AIH is suggested for couple who has:

  • Anatomical problems found in the male partner (like, abnormalities of the penis)
  • Psychological problems.
  • Problems or condition that prevents normal ejaculation and erection (can be organic or psychological)

For the procedure, semen samples will be collected from the male partner. To ensure the sperm density, the male partner will be advised to avoid sexual intercourse for three-four days prior to sperm collection. The sperm will be collected into a clean plastic container which will be used within one or two hours to inseminate. The procedure for IUI AIH and AID will be the same. In AIH, the sperm will be collected from the male partner whereas in AID, the sperm will be collected from the donor. The donor can either be a known person or a stranger. Before collecting the sperm from the donor, tests will be conducted to analyze his health condition and ensure secure sperm transfer.
