Intrauterine Systems / the IUS is a small, T-shaped plastic piece that contains a kind of progestogen hormone called levonorgestrel. It is an effective, reversible and long term contraceptive method. A woman who does not want to have children for a specific period of time can seek the help of a medical professional to get IUS. He/she will insert the IUS into the uterus. The effect of IUS may last for around 5 years.
The inserted IUS releases progestogen hormone into the womb. So, the sperm will find it difficult to reach the egg. This is how the intrauterine system works as a contraceptive. There can be negative effects too:
