Sexually Transmitted Diseases | Control & Counseling

STD or Sexually Transmitted Diseases are those which are transmitted during sexual intercourse. They are also known as Sexually Transmitted Infections or Venereal Diseases. It is evident from the recent studies that, these kinds of diseases are increasing day by day. According to reliable data, around 19 million new STDs occur every year. This is a big threat to the society as well as to the world.

There are people who are not aware of the fact that, STDs can be life threatening and can cause serious health issues. Currently, the most dangerous STDs that are reported to be spreading fast are:

  • Gonorrhea
  • Chlamydia
  • HIV infection and AIDS
  • Syphilis
  • Chancroid etc.

Studies point that incorrect knowledge, unawareness; social beliefs etc. are some of the major factors that cause the spread of such diseases. People in the society are stigmatised about the sexually transmitted diseases. They feel ashamed to share such issues with anyone. For the same reason, they do not go to doctor and take treatments for such diseases.

In fact, Sexually Transmitted Diseases should get proper medical care at the right time. For this, the social stigma has to be wiped out. It requires counselling and awareness programmes to be conducted in remote villages. People should learn more about safe sexual intercourse and its importance.
