Fallopian Tube Obstruction

Tubal blockage also known as Fallopian Tube Obstruction is one of the dominant causes of infertility in women. Block in the fallopian tubes causesobstruction in converging the ovum and the sperm. This makes fertilization impossible. Infertility caused by tubal blockage is known as tubal factor infertility.

According to studies, the most common cause for tubal blockage can be certain infections like Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. It can also caused due to:

  • Endometritis
  • Appendicitis
  • Peritonitis etc.

There are contraceptive methods that block the fallopian tubes for preventing unwanted pregnancy. They may not harm the fallopian tube. Diagnostic methods such as sonography, hysterosalpingogram, ultrasound, hysteroscopy etc. can analyse the functions of the fallopian tube, include blockages.

The traditional treatment for fallopian tubal blockage is the fallopian tubal surgery, also known as tuboplasty. This procedure can restore the tubal patency and normal functioning. Other assisted reproductive methods are also used nowdays to treat tubal blockage:

  • IVF
  • Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM)
  • Laparoscopic surgeries.

Laparoscopic surgeries may not work successfully in all cases. The most important risk involved with the tubal blockage removal surgery is ectopic pregnancy.
