Complex Endometrial Hyperplasia

The inner lining of the uterus is called endometrium. When the cells of endometrium proliferate, the condition is called complex endometrial hyperplasia. The proliferation is caused due to a combination of increased level of estrogen and decreased level of progesterone. Women with this condition are at risk for developing endometrial cancer. So, this condition needs close monitoring.

This condition is a psyhiological response to the actions of the hormone. According to it, endometrial hyperplasia can be classified into:

  • Simple without nuclear atypia
  • Complex without atypia
  • Simple atypical hyperplasia
  • Complex atypical hyperplasia

Diagnosis is done through:

  • Endometrial biopsy or
  • Hysteroscopic guided biopsy specimen or
  • Evaluating the sample curettage etc.

According to each case, the treatment may vary. It is not unique for each individual. Some of the treatments may include:

  • Hysterectomy or
  • Hormonal Therapy

Hormonal therapy can either be done using continuous progestin or cyclic.
