Menstrual Disorders

Menstrual cycle is the time when the uterus gets ready for pregnancy. The inner lining of the uterus is shed during menstrual bleeding. Age may cause variations in the menstrual cycles. Menstrual cycles become irregular during adolescence and near menopause. Changes can also be caused due illness, medications, stress, pregnancy etc.

Some of the menstrual problems may include:

  • Not getting periods till the age of 16: This can be caused due to various factors like genetic disorders, undernutrition, ovarian tumours, ovary failure, hormonal issues etc. This condition requires immediate medical concern.
  • If one misses a period not because she is pregnant: The main causes of this issue are breastfeeding, depression, hormonal problems, menopause, stress, birth control pills etc.

Other major menstrual disorders may include:

  • Bleeding between periods
  • Heavy/ prolonged bleeding and clots
  • Severe menstrual pain etc.

Difficulty and irregularity during menstrual cycles should be given significance as this may cause problems in getting pregnant. Seeking help from a best gynaecologist can be the right way.
