In the case of women, infertility is very much connected to age. It will be good if they think about conceiving during their 20s or early 30s. There are many tests available which can tell whether a woman has a faster biological clock or not. Anti-Mullerian Hormone is one among those tests. AMH levels test help in measuring the number of follicles developed in the ovary at a specific time period whereby estimating the ovarian reserve.
AMH grows in the ovaries as small follicles. Testing AMH levels is more convenient when compared to that of other hormone tests. AMH test only requires a simple blood test which is less expensive and less time consuming. This test can be done conveniently at any time during the menstrual cycle. One of the main advantages of this test is that, it can pick up who is going to lose fertility sooner. Women who are older than 40 and women with polycystic ovaries may not be able to get the ovarian reserve estimate using an AMH test. However, good AMH level does not always ensure higher fertility.
Even though, high AMH level indicate good infertility rate, it does not reflect the quality of the eggs produced. Interpretation of AMH levels has not been consistent. They are not yet clarified by the experts. One of the standard interpretations of AMH levels is shown below:
